LOGGIA PALACE

In place of this building, the ancient church of San Giovanni Battista initially stood, with a hospice for pilgrims. Later, it welcomed a congregation of lay nuns called Pizzocchere. The Municipality bought the buildings in 1877, to build the current building in their place, intended for prestigious events, as well as to become the center of cultural and social life of the city. The covered cereal market took place under the loggia of the building; in fact, wheat was, and still is, a prized local product. The adjacent Piazzetta Grani, on the other hand, in addition to wheat, housed stalls of poultry, fruit and vegetables. In 1966 the building was hit by a fire on the upper floor, but later it did not stop hosting cultural events inside.
