CASSA DI RISPARMIO

In 1918 a large fire destroyed the dwellings of this area, whose architectural lines were very similar to those of the buildings between the present building and the cathedral. Between 1923 and 1927, architect Forlati and engineer Berlese designed the Cassa di Risparmio site, which was intended to recall the most sumptuous medieval palaces through its use of exposed brick, arches, marble decorations and rich capitals supporting the imposing portico. This aim was fully achieved, as it still arouses the curiosity and admiration of many visitors, who imagine it to be original and traceable to that distant era. The pictorial decorations by the fellow citizen Discotto, also contribute to creating the illusion of a sumptuous medieval past.
