VALERI PALACE

One of the most prestigious buildings in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II is definitely Palazzo Valeri. Overlooking the southern side of the square, it represents a great example of eighteenth-century architecture. The facade reveals rather severe lines, with nine columns in grey trachyte concluded by capitals of the Doric order. The latter support eight ashlar arches, from whose keystone protrude, eclectic, as many masks always carved in Euganean stone. In the upper part of the building, the tympanum, the cornices, the seven large rectangular windows – of which the central one is arched – show a strong and decisive architectural language, with all the elements marked by materials and peculiar colours.
